Abstract:
Climate change adaptation is increasingly seen as integral to dealing with the effects of climate change. Policymakers, however, are frequently limited in putting the policies into action due to institutional constraints. Moreover, the inherent uncertainty involved in the prediction of climate change effects is often seen as a deterrent of proactive climate change adaptation decision-making. The Shift II Research Project seeks to identify the effect of uncertainty on collective decision-making, specifically decisions leading to climate change adaptation in alpine regions. In a game-theoretical model, outcomes under individual decision making by different stakeholders are compared to those under collective descision making. Caste studies in alpine regions will be used to illustrate the pratical implications of the theoretical model.
